The Asian Student Committee
A small group of cute and good-looking people populates the Asian Students Committee. The committee is in conjunction with Vassar’s Asian Student’s Alliance, leading a year-long project that changes yearly. For the year 2023-2024, this is us :).
Our Project
This year’s Asian Student Committee project revolves around the very general theme of the “Asian/American” experience. We often get lost in misrepresentation and generalizations, and this project is to showcase the vast and fascinating experiences of Asian/American students on this campus. Ultimately, we are showcasing that our lives are so much larger than what we’ve been boxed into.
Through a process of oral histories and doodle activities, community members recall buildings and spaces with sentimental, nostalgic meaning. The doodles displayed an array of colorful skyscrapers to worn-down shacks that give a small glimpse into each of our past. Most importantly, with how fast-paced life can be, we hope this experience can be a time to reflect, process, and remember our origins.
Artists among the Asian Students Committee reinterpret the shared special places and memories. Through art with a focus on space and architecture, we hope to display truly how vast and diverse the Asian/American experience is for your viewing and reflection.
